Job Type: 3-month W2 assignment with potential to extend / convert
Overview:
On behalf of our client, a leading private university in Los Angeles, CA, we are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to support the financial operations. The ideal candidate will have strong Excel skills, solid experience with accounts payable processes, and a proactive approach to resolving discrepancies and following through on accounting activity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Invoice Processing (50%): Manage and process vendor invoices for Bookstore and Auxiliary vendors with accuracy and timeliness.
- Month-End Close (10%): Support the monthly close process by ensuring all accounts payable procedures are completed by established deadlines.
- Vendor Statement Reconciliation (20%): Reconcile vendor statements against the accounting system, verify vendor balances, and research and resolve discrepancies as needed.
- Inventory Reconciliations (5%): Prepare monthly inventory balance sheet reconciliations, identify and research discrepancies, and collaborate with unit managers for resolution.
- Credit Memo Management (3%): Match credit memos with open invoices and maintain accurate records.
- Accounting Follow-Up: Independently follow up on open accounting items, processing and monitoring activity through completion with minimal supervision.
- Freight Bill Reconciliation (3%): Reconcile bi-weekly freight invoices for all USC Bookstores.
- Check Refund Requests (2%): Initiate check refund requests in lieu of credit memos for payments on inactive accounts.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced level).
- Prior experience with invoice processing, AP, and account reconciliation.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks under minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in a university or auxiliary services setting is a plus.
