Healthcare Construction Director

Job Title: Healthcare Construction Director, Project Controls

Location: N Soto St, Los Angeles 90033 (Hybrid: Onsite 1-2 days/week, Local candidates only)

Pay Rate: Up to $84.13 per hour

Assignment Duration: 13-week contract with benefits (Temp to Hire with a high possibility to convert)

Work Hours: 9 AM – 5 PM PST

 

Job Summary:

The Director of Project Controls within the Construction Department of our private medical enterprise client plays a critical leadership role in the System Design and Construction division. This position holds substantial authority over decision-making, staffing, and budgeting for large-scale healthcare construction projects. The Director is responsible for developing and overseeing cost control procedures, managing project controls, and integrating advanced project management software. This role requires close collaboration with Health System Finance leadership to ensure that all projects are aligned with the organization's financial objectives.

 

MUST-HAVE, NON-NEGOTIABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience with large-scale HCAi (healthcare) construction projects and proven competency in managing complex project controls.
  2. 8+ years of experience in construction management or financial administration, with increasing leadership/management responsibility.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Project Financial Oversight and Reporting (60%):

  • Establish and manage project control frameworks to ensure cost and schedule objectives are met.
  • Manage project financials, including cost reports, budgets, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Oversee scheduling activities to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

Business and Financial Analysis (20%):

  • Produce project/program control reports and analyze project spending.
  • Develop analytics for vendor performance, change orders, and project overruns.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills (10%):

  • Maintain effective relationships with various stakeholders, including construction managers and university partners.
  • Communicate critical updates and ensure coordination with the Design & Construction team.

Implementation & Training (5%):

  • Train and mentor staff on project controls, and implement project management systems and tools.

Other Duties (5%):

  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including emergency response and mandated reporting responsibilities.

 

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in financial/business administration, construction management, or a related field.
  • Master's degree preferred (4 years of management/director-level experience may substitute for a Master's degree).

Experience:

  • 8 years of experience in construction management or financial administration with increasing leadership responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Professional certifications relevant to cost management, schedule management, and project management (e.g., CPD, PgMP, PfMP, PRINCE2).
  • Experience with Bluebeam or similar tools.
  • Experience with vendor management and developing performance metrics.
  • Change leadership and innovation capabilities that align with healthcare organizational goals.

Required Skills:

  1. Experience with large-scale HCAi construction projects and proven competency in managing complex project controls.
  2. 8+ years of experience in construction management or financial administration, with increasing leadership/management responsibility.
  3. Proficiency in project management software like Procore, Honest Building, or eBuilder.
  4. Strong leadership and communication skills, with a record of driving results and implementing organizational improvements in a healthcare environment.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  1. Master's degree in a related field.
  2. Professional certifications relevant to cost management, schedule management, and project management.
  3. Experience with Bluebeam or similar tools.
  4. Experience with vendor management and developing performance metrics.
  5. Change leadership and innovation capabilities that align with healthcare organizational goals.

 

Additional Information:

  • Hybrid Work Setup: Onsite 1-2 days per week, especially at the beginning. Flexibility to discuss/adjust this with the successful candidate.
  • Equipment: Provided by company for remote work.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) required within 30 days of hire if not already obtained.
