Trade Compliance Professional
Location: San Jose, CA.
12 month assignment (Potential to extend)
Pay Rate: $76/hr.
On behalf of our client, a Fortune 500 computer software company, we are seeking a Trade Compliance professional to join the Global Logistics/Global Trade Operations team. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with international trade regulations, including product classification and adherence to legal requirements. The ideal candidate will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, managing sensitive technical and legal information.
Responsibilities:
- Classify company’s products, components, and technology using Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN) in accordance with the Bureau of Industry and Security’s Commerce Control List (CCL), as well as other EU and AP country laws and regulations.
- Assign Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes according to importing and exporting country requirements.
- Work with internal teams such as vendors, engineering design, product management, sales, and procurement to determine and validate product classifications.
- Engage with customers, suppliers, and other external contacts to exchange technical and legal information, maintaining confidentiality.
- Maintain and update classification data in Oracle-GTM, ensuring timely completion of assigned classifications.
- Research discrepancies and provide substantiation to support classification claims to customs authorities.
- Support implementation of internal trade projects related to classification, including submitting binding rulings when necessary.
- Participate in denied party screening, country of origin determinations, and Free Trade Agreement projects.
- Identify opportunities for process automation and simplification within the Trade Operations team.
- Provide monthly KPI reports and support to the supervisor.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 6 years of experience in a global electronics manufacturing organization.
- Deep knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS), Export Control Classification Number (ECCN), Country of Origin (CoO) management, and trade compliance screenings.
- Proficiency in Oracle-GTM and other relevant trade compliance software.
