Supply Assurance Buyer

3-Month Contract | $37–$45/hour DOE
Overview
Our client is a global leader in life science and diagnostic manufacturing, producing specialized laboratory and chemical products used in research, healthcare, and biopharmaceutical applications. They are seeking a Supply Assurance Buyer II to support a high-volume chemical manufacturing facility responsible for producing chromatography resins, liquid buffers, monomer solutions, oils, and other specialized products.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring uninterrupted material flow to support complex manufacturing operations and customer demand. The ideal candidate will work closely with Planning, Production, Quality Control, Manufacturing Engineering, Warehouse, and suppliers to proactively manage purchasing activities, resolve supply challenges, and maintain inventory continuity in a fast-paced environment with over 3,000 SKUs.
Key Responsibilities
- Place purchase orders for goods and services supporting manufacturing operations
- Manage supplier relationships to ensure timely delivery, quality, and supply continuity
- Monitor inventory and stock levels to support production and inventory goals
- Expedite materials and coordinate with scheduling teams to prevent production disruptions
- Review supplier communications, ERP signals, and open purchase orders daily
- Identify, escalate, and resolve urgent supply shortages and potential supply chain risks
- Manage workflows within SAP and maintain accurate purchasing records
- Resolve invoice discrepancies and support overdue invoice resolution efforts
- Evaluate and optimize stocking levels based on business needs and production demands
- Introduce efficiencies and process improvements within purchasing operations
- Participate in supplier audits, business reviews, and supplier performance tracking initiatives
- Support long-term sourcing strategies including dual sourcing and inventory optimization
- Process RTVs (Return to Vendor) for non-conforming materials
- Ensure compliance with safety requirements and commercial certification programs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
- 1–3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or production planning
- Experience issuing purchase orders and expediting materials in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of purchasing and materials management principles
- SAP experience preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Coursework or certification toward CPM and/or CPIM is a plus
